Exposed Root Coverage After Soft Tissue Tumor Removal Using Two-Step Surgery Technique (Case Report)

Abstract
When intra-oral lesions in soft tissue reach the gingival margin, they can produce aesthetic problems during their presence and after their removal. Periodontal plastic surgery can be used in the correction of the gingival contour using many different techniques. This is a case report of a peripheral ossifying fibroma removal in the interproximal area between the maxillary left central and lateral incisors. The procedure also included the coverage of the exposed root in the affected area using two surgical stages: the first stage involved keratinized gingival tissue augmentation surgery with a free gingival graft concurrent with the removal of the lesion. In the second stage, root coverage was achieved by performing the coronally repositioned flap technique. A one-year follow-up was conducted. The initial results showed 100% root coverage after 6 months, promoting an adequate gingival contour and preventing the development of a mucogingival defect or root exposure with its functional and aesthetic consequences. After one year, the results demonstrated the long-term success of the techniques, with the margin remaining stable, complete root coverage, and tissues appearing stable and normal in color.
